"Don't boast--that is not polite!"
I remember that this was a lesson my parents would teach me while growing up. I learned that it was much kinder to ask about others' lives than to dominate the conversation with tales of my own. Who likes a braggart, anyway?
1 Corinthians has something valuable to say about boasting, as it relates to our spiritual lives: "And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord'" (1:30-31).
What a relief that we can boast...in the Lord! Consider what Paul says we have to boast about (and these are just a few of the many blessings of Christ): wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. The list is never exhausted!
Today, through our actions and our words, may we tell of the glorious gospel. Permission is granted to boast in the Lord!
